19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Medvedev secured his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term coach his previous coach.

Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from March of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early break points in a tight final set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
